Generator to a new house

Okay, so I've bought a new house that's pretty much far from civilization and the electricity here is very unstable, so I've been thinking about wiring a generator to the house. We are planning to live here so it would be great to have more stable electricity. So, can anyone help me or have an idea to how to wire generator to house? I appreciate any suggestions.

You're playing with fire if you don't do this by the book, so it's good you're asking. The 2 proper ways are a manual transfer switch for critical circuits or a breaker interlock kit on your main panel. Are you trying to power the whole house or just the bare essentials when the grid goes down?

Not an expert but I agree with the transfer switch. I believe a licensed electrician can install it along with a power inlet box outside your home.

You'll need a transfer switch installed between your generator and your main panel to safely power your house, it's best to get a pro to handle the wiring to avoid safety issues, make sure the generator can handle your essential loads

I'd reckon you first need to determine what you plan to run, on generator--that will drive 'size' of generator.

Once you know what size generator you're planning, the way(s) of bringing that power indoors can be determined.
