repairing a honda 6500 generator

My dad is always so lucky. being the tinkerer he is, just scored this Honda 6500 generator. Why lucky? Well, he got it for free!

He's a mover and a client just gave it to him bcs she just didn't want it (it was her ex's)

Naturally, it was super dirty and hadn't run in years. He brought it home and, man, he's really been digging into it.
First thing, he managed to turn it over by hand after popping off the end cover. But the starter was completely rusted and stuck.

So, he pulled the starter off, cleaned it all up, and actually got it working again!

Then he noticed the timing belt was all chewed up by rodents, so he replaced that. And the carb? Oh man, he said that was bad.

He spent several days just soaking it in his ultrasonic cleaner to get it cleaned out. That little pilot jet was seriously stuck, so getting that out was a whole job in itself.
He's been ordering parts, like whole kit for the carb, a new pilot jet, and a new shut off solenoid for the bottom of the carb.

I'm gonna help him to put the carb back on today and give it a spin to see if it'll finally fire up. Wish us luck!

Damn, seems like you've got your hands full and it might be worth it. A few parts hardly cost as much as the entire generator and if you manage to get it working, you're looking at one that's already been serviced by you, so good job!
