A few days ago I spoke to an acquaintance of mine about my farm and the work I plan on doing there and he mentioned that I should get a pto driven generator. Sure, I have the tractors, I have multiple ones tbh, but is this really the best option or can I aim for other type of generators?

Since the majority of PTOs operate at 540 rpm, I believe the generator would be set up to run at 1800 rpm. Although I've never used one, I have friends who do, and they seem to be working well. Generally speaking, governors on farm tractors are excellent

PTO generators are pretty good if you already have your tractors, especially for backup power out in the wild. That said, if you have sensitive equipment you need reliability for, a dedicated standby unit might be the better option. Good luck on the setup.

I know a few people who have farms and they have both. PTO for work wherever is needed and one for powering the house. I'm guessing this is the besta approach since multiple people are doing it.

Since you've got tractors, a PTO generator is a really strong contender for backup and mobile power on your farm. It's cost effective and flexible.
But if you have critical stuff that absolutely can't lose power for a second, a dedicated standby generator might be a smart addition.
What exact gear would you want to power, and if you'd need that power in remote spots versus mostly at your main buildings?

Yeah, I agree. PTO generators are adaptable, but if you've got stuff that really needs power, a standby generator is the way to go.
