40kW vs 68kW diesel generator which size for home backup

Just moved into a new place dealing with frequent outages from heat and AC use. Thinking about a diesel generator since there's a gas station next door for fuel. Got quotes for 40kW and 68kW models—$3K difference. Not sure if 40kW will handle my load or if I need the bigger one. Setup: 9 ACs, 6 water heaters, pump, fridge, freezer, oven, multiple electronics. Not all run at once, but need to estimate peak load.

Anyone with sizing tips or experience with MacGen, Atlas Copco, or SDMO generators? Worth the extra cost for 68kW?
